Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) are sub-units of Indiana state government; each Indiana county has a SWCD.  The Dubois County SWCD works to reduce soil erosion and promote clean water.  The SWCD identifies local natural resource concerns, and provides technical, financial, and informational assistance to conserve our resources for future generations.  To fulfill its role, the Dubois County SWCD partners with local government agencies, citizens’ groups, and individuals.

SWCD leadership is provided by five local residents called Supervisors.  In  2022, the supervisors are Brenda Sermersheim, Chair,  Glenn Goeppner, Vice Chair, Pat Eckerle,  Andy Helming, and Arlene Fleck.  The Supervisors evaluate the natural resources in Dubois County, prioritize them, and set the program to address the resource needs.  The Supervisors partner with the Dubois County Commissioners and Council, who provide the staff necessary to carry out the SWCD program.  Are you interested in learning more about being a SWCD Supervisor?  Contact the office for details:  812-482-1171, Ext. 3446.

The Soil and Water Conservation District is housed in the USDA Service Center, at 1486 Executive Blvd, Jasper.   During the Covid-19 Pandemic, the SWCD staff follow the USDA guidelines in regards to masking, staffing levels, and customer accessibility to the office.  Signage on the door will announce the masking status for each week.
