The Surveyor is an elected official and serves a four-year term. The primary duties of the surveyor are to survey and keep record of all section corners throughout the county. The surveyor is required to prepare, maintain and keep a legal survey record book showing maps of each section, grant, tract, subdivision or group of such areas in sufficient detail so that the approximate location of each survey can be shown.

Other Surveyor duties include:

  1. Supervise all legal ditch construction and maintenance.
  2. Serves as a member of the County Drainage Board.
  3. In Dubois County, the surveyor does the Emergency 911 addressing for the areas outside incorporated towns and cities.
